Pre-course

The pre-course is mandatory for everyone, who is taking part in this program for the first time. It is comprised of:

  • Pool lifeguard – 300-metre swim (100-metre crawl swim, 100-metre breaststroke swim, 100-metre free style swim) without any time limit
  • Beach lifeguard – 500-metre crawl swim under 10 minutes (or other time limit set by the employer)
  • Swimming 20 metres, fishing out a 5-kilo object from a minimum of 2,5-metre deepness, then backstroking back with the object without using hands
  • Tread the water for 2 minutes without using your hands
  • A short interview in English

The pre-course will take about 2 hours. We will objectively evaluate your swimming and English level. Afterwards, we will recommend you the suitable work position and employer.

Participation in the pre-course is non-binding and free of charge.

The pre-course takes place in Prague, Brno and Olomouc. You can find the available dates on your Czech-us account, after registering into the program.

American lifeguard course

During the lifeguard training you will gain knowledge about lifeguarding and American rescue system. You will learn Firs Aid and CPR, including manipulation with the AED (Automated external defibrillator).

Lessons in the pool (11 hours) consist of practicing a safe entry into the water and saving a drowning person from either deep or shallow water, including the situation with suspected head, neck or spinal injury.

The course is ended with practical First Aid and water rescue exams, also with a written English exam from theoretical skills. Using a dictionary in the course of the exam is allowed.

We lay emphasis on your personal approach, because every student has a different physical and language level. Every participant will get a sweatshirt, T-shirt, resuscitation mask, Lifeguard Skill Sheets, vinyl gloves and a whistle.

After successfully finishing the course you will obtain a certificate from the American Red Cross – Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, which will be sent electronically to your email address. The certificate is valid for 2 years. Though our co-operating employers require a yearly review of the CPR/AED course.

The course takes place in Prague. Available dates on your Czech-us account.

Pool operator course

This course is designated for all pool lifeguards. We will show you how the pool and its filtration system works, the flow rate formula of the water, theoretical and practical aspect of the pool chemistry.

This online course is obligatory and free of charge. After completing it, you won’t get any certificate, not until you will be in the USA. There your employer will give you a Pool Operator license (usually after passing a test and paying the fee, if the employer requires it).
